Jealousy - An Essay

Jealousy - An Essay

A Story by BlueShadow

Jealousy is the emotion we feel when we see someone with an expensive car, a contest winner, or the seller of a successful product. Jealousy is an extremely negative emotion to feel because it makes us desire something that we can’t have. Jealousy is the emotion we experience when we want something but can’t have it. Jealousy is remarkably prevalent in our society today because of the number of people with things that are beautiful, expensive, or extravagant, or all three. Jealousy is an emotion we feel when we experience something that requires us to control our outward appearance when in reality we just want to have something we can’t have. Jealousy, envy, and greed are all tied up together and I will show you how. Jealousy is the pent-up frustration of being unable to do something when someone else can do it effortlessly. Jealousy is the pang of envy we experience in our stomachs when we desire or want or “need” something that we can’t have. Jealousy is a remarkably common emotion and is prevalent in a society that values competition, material acquisition, and selfishness.

Envy and greed are two related phenomena that require careful inspection to get down to the root cause of what is really going on. Envy is the emotion which makes us feel like we should get something we don’t have, or be able to do something that we can’t do. Jealousy and envy are two related emotions that make us feel like we need something more, something to satisfy our desire for wealth, fame, and power. Jealousy and envy are very similar in quality and remind us that being in constant competition with one another makes us realize that there is always someone who is “better” than us or more successful than us. Rather than give up, I suggest you keep on trudging forward and keep on pressing in so that you can become successful in whatever area you’re competent in so that your life will be more successful. Jealousy and envy are both tied together because in life there are usually some people who are more wealthy, better looking, or more successful than us. It’s hard not to feel a pang of resentment towards them because we feel like we deserve whatever they have and whatever they do. Jealousy, envy, and greed are three different things that are tied together but ultimately are different in quality and quantity.

In order to stop from feeling jealous, you should remind yourself of how many good and wonderful things your life has been blessed with. For example, being able to see, hear, taste, touch, and smell are gifts of the senses and should remind ourselves how wonderfully gifted we are in our lives and how happy we are in our relationships with one another. Being able to live a normal, healthy life with a good job and friends is a wonderful way to remember that we are luckier than we think. I feel fortunate for having an apartment to live in and am grateful for being able to live somewhere peaceful, happy, and well-located. Being jealous of someone else because they have something or can do something you can’t do is a bad way to live your life. Focus on the positives rather than the negatives, and remind yourself that life is unfair in some respects. I feel so fortunate for being able to sleep well, eat well, and have good things to do. I feel fortunate for being able to have the life of someone who is happy, comfortable, and satisfied with what he has, not what someone else has. Life is full of happiness and if you just take the time to experience it, there is so much in life to be thankful for.

Jealousy is an emotion that makes us feel bitter and angry but once we get down to the root cause of what is causing it, we can make progress emotionally and behaviorally. Life is full of wonder and awe and I feel grateful being able to go to so many parts of the wilderness, so many museums, and so many different restaurants that have lots of interesting things to offer and sell. I feel blessed in my life for having all the different things in life and all the different people who make my life happy and complete. Jealousy is the reason why many people feel angry and bitter towards their own lives. If they just take the time to examine their lives and look for something good, there could be something they overlooked and weren’t able to see before. I think one reason why people are jealous of one another is the pride they feel in themselves and their accomplishments. Pride or arrogance is a huge reason why people have difficulty being content with their lives and being satisfied with what they have. There are so many things to be grateful for and arrogance can get in the way of feeling genuine gratitude and real thankfulness. Jealousy is tied with greed and pride.

I hope in this essay I was able to elaborate what jealousy is, how we can handle it, who it affects, why it affects certain people, and the root causes of the emotion itself. Jealousy is a poisonous emotion that makes us feel like there is something or somethings that we deserve which in reality are not things that we need in the first place. Jealousy is something that can affect our lives in a negative way such as trying to bring others down, having little to no conscience, or by making us feel like there is a reason for everything. Jealousy is an emotion that I’m glad that I personally have not experienced much of but have witnessed in others and how it can turn their lives upside down in a huge bowl of anger, hate, and selfishness. To me, jealousy is something that makes us feel envious of other people’s successes and winnings. Jealousy is something that makes us feel like there is no end to our greed and that if we can’t have something someone else has, we can’t live. Getting rid of jealousy is something that takes time, but can be done by anyone who has the desire to do so. Jealousy is something that makes us feel angry, bitter, and resentful. Let’s try to get rid of it from our lives.
