Oak Logs

Oak Logs

A Poem by BlueShadow

Smoke billowing up from the brick chimney,

Like darkness departing into another world.

The sun shines like an orange lightbulb in the sky

The fireplace has oak logs burning

Keeping us all warm during Christmas Eve

I love the warmth that emanates from the fire

Love settles in like drops of red falling down

My parents and I are together on the sofa

Christmas Eve feels like Christmas already

Hot chocolate and marshmallows are ready

I go outside and see upward

The sky is covered with a haze covering the sun

The grass is like frost covering greenery

The fireplace spits embers
Back in the house being comforted by warmth

The oak logs are charred

Nothing but blackness
