prayer to zeus

this is a prayer to zeus to protect you when among strangers

Great Zeus, Father Zeus, master of Olympos,

bearer of the thunderbolt whose might it is

that draws together the darkening clouds,

well-honored one, kind-hearted god to whom we turn

when we are far from home and family, I call to you.

Zeus, I am alone; I stand in the sphere of strangers.

Friend of the foreigner, friend of the visitor,

friend of those who must rely on the good will

of those unknown, the kindness of the host

to the outsider, I pray to you, lead me

to a place of welcome, bring me safely home again.

What a lovely prayer!
Although I am a Christian, I have always been fascinated by the gods and goddesses of Olympus.

I love prayer poems, but if I were to have written this I would replace Zeus with Jehovah - Many scholars believe that the Greek god Zeus was derived from the Biblical God because reference is given to giants in Genesis 6 - Henceforth the Titans were derived from the Nephilim and giants - 2 Peter 2:4 also mentions Tartarus in the original Greek text, but was translated as Hell. Very interesting history

"Hades" is not only the name of the god of the dead, but is also the name of the land of the dead. it is often mistaken as hell. in reality the original underworld contains Heaven, Purgatory, and hell. Tartarus is the Greek representation of hell, but the Christians thought that Hades was the devil, which he is not, and so they think that all of the underworld is hell.
