The Inconvenience of Ethics

The Inconvenience of Ethics

A Poem by icaros13

My meticulously constructed citadel
Felled by a cigarette behest
Words and smoke
Flowing, resurrecting a withered spirit

The selfish dream of possibilities
Devouring logic and reason
Leaving me disarmed, defenseless
Transforming the refined to the primal

Astringent third-wheel discomfort
Turns the vision green
And in a single moment
Teaches the folly of assumption

Should I remit this vow
To a life of benevolence
And give voice to this mercenary beast
That would steal from the weak?

"Should I remit this vow
To a life of benevolence
And give voice to this mercenary beast
That would steal from the weak?"
The above words are powerful and a very real question today in our world. Wealthy country send soldiers as mercenary for oil and profit. Few give a damn. Thank you for the outstanding poem.

. i think you expressed your dilemma brilliantly ... someone very wise once said "if i absolutely had to be a monster, i'd be the most angelic monster of them all" ...

Interesting, and deep. I like this one.

I really enjoyed this. It's lonely and almost absent-minded in the cryptic display of bitter desires and soft whispers of neglect. I feel that I can really relate to the fine construction of these words, as they paint a monochromatic of the neutral colors in-between. It's unspoken virtuosity and not-quite out of reach dreams. Beautifully expressed.
