In a world of good, on a road long & narrow, when one bad thing pops up, we tend to focus on that, because one knows it doesn't belong there. It becomes a focal point that satan uses to distract us & make our roads wide & short. Focus on it long enough to get rid of it, then turn our focus back on God cause he is where the all goodness comes from.

Satan, our enemy is definitely in an adversarial position. "On a road long and narrow" as you state, our focus is actually part of the faith,that is a gift from the Holy Spirit imparted to us. Salvation, through the Savior, Jesus Christ, being an ongoing process of learning and perfecting. We as Christians have and are living in the Covenant originally given to the Jews so long ago. If you remember the story of Jacob and Esau.
