For a fisher(wo)man

For a fisher(wo)man

A Poem by Anthony Garcia
"

extended metaphor

"

Catch a fish, eat a fish
It is frowned upon to catch more than your fill
Place your bait, catch a fish
It’s not nice to hook and release
Hook a fish, reel it in
Don’t be surprised if it strives to break your line
Catch a fish, eat a fish
Reel your hook in when you’ve caught the one you want
Catch a fish, love a fish
For there’s a fish out there struggling to breathe, with a whole in its lip

This is a curious piece that says much. I find it an odd little fellow, an unusual piece to find in a book of poetry. But it manages to squeeze itself in, begs to fit, and finally lies flat before the fisherman who reads it gently and smiles. But it seems there is another, a bigger one, more tasty perhaps, than the one caught, that offers much more if it can only be reeled in. Good work.
