Deep Blue

Deep Blue

A Poem by MCS

Walk a white sand ribbon

under the Tonga sun

looking across the

blue vastness

afraid to enter

Carrying goggles and snorkel

unable to trust funnelled air

leery of the artificial umbilical

absorbing the moist air

lost in wondering thoughts

Basking in the warmth

seeking the demarcation line

between dry and wet

caressed by sea foam

enjoying brief coolness

Swallowing fear, adjusting goggles

entering the blue vastness

blowing out through the hollow tube

learning to trust quickly

rapid breaths at first

Calming rhythmic breathing found

suspended in a blue womb

surrounded by light and colour

overwhelmed by beauty

mesmerized by the play of light

Time has no meaning

pace slow and easy

covering distance

without exertion

absorbed in bliss

Emerging from the surf

child of Neptune touched by air

shedding the sea’s fluids

skin beaded with moisture

sparkling with the sea’s jewels
