Take Me Away

This is about the transition from a bad relationship into a good one and in the process forgetting all the pain that was caused before.

Rain falls softly from the sky

Off in the distance, dolphins cry

The world is broken and torn

My clothes are tattered and worn

I can but only sigh as the clouds loom near

My entire being is gripped with fear

Only your touch eases the pain

Guide me to the lands beyond the rain

 

I just don’t know how long I can hold out

With this shroud of doubt

Hanging over my head

Filling my thoughts with dread

I need something to replace

All of the empty space

From being torn apart

Blood spills from my broken heart

 

So take me far away from here

Where the skies are blue and clear

Where the birds fly free and true

Where it can be, just me and you

 

I don’t know quite what to do

Now that all that is through

I was left wounded and alone

Until your light was shone

Into the darkness of my life
Like butter through a knife

Words began to wander
As my heart grew fonder

 

Colors coming racing fast

To fill a canvas so vast

It could span across the land

As I sit here on the sand

Always scheming

Never dreaming

For such nightmares take hold

In vivid dreams, so bold

 

So take me far away from here

Where the skies are blue and clear

Where the dolphins swim so free

Where the sightless can see

 

Yet I cannot conquer the wicked waves

That forever enslaves

The lurid emotion that quivers beneath

The ground upon which we bequeath

Our ashes, from whence we came

To where we will go, neither fame

Nor fortune can change our fate

Drink cannot quench, food cannot sate

We are but empty inside our own little box

Out here drifting amongst the rocks

 

Just beyond the shore

The waves hold so much more

I must keep on pressing forward

To continue toward

The edge of light

As we sweep softly into night

Birds flutter by softly in the breeze

Floating about with such ease

Beautiful and mellifluous is their flight

Such wondrous sights ease my plight

 

So take me far away from here

Where the skies are blue and clear

Where the birds soar to the sky

Where I can rest easy upon high

 

Many times it has changed

The skyline rearranged

In it’s eccentric infancy

It held such clemency

Now filled with a noxious slurry

As my sight grew blurry

Clouds grew about

The heavens did shout

Of the coming danger

At the hands of a stranger

 

Feelings did linger

As I began to forget her

And I opened my arms to you

For you’ve always been true

I’m glad that you are willing to

Stand beside me forever

For together we shall never

Feel alone, like I once did

I felt so insipid

But now that I’m with you

All of the colors are true

 

You’ve taken me away

To a place I can stay

Free from pain and strife

I shall love you, love you all my life
