Now I pray that when you look at me
You see me with eyes of the past
I hope that seeing me brings happiness
Not pain or regret

An interesting premise....since most of us prefer not to look on those in our past that hurt or disappointed us, ever again. It takes a forgiving soul to do that and a extremely forgiving soul to look at someone without any pain or regret caused in the past. There must be some of them around. A very hopeful tone in this poem, Mr C. All the best with it. ❤

Thank you. I really do appreciate it. I understand most scenarios that would fit such a poem would call for an incident that required forgiveness but that would not be the case here. I wish it were. Then I would have a goal- something to rectify or make up for. For us, it’s not something that can happen right now. I suppose my fault would have been not wanting to accept it. I cannot see myself giving up hope. It is something that will stay with me.

Will the real person we truly are shine through for all to see? Pain and regret are the ghosts from our past we try all our lives to overcome. Another's perception of who we are lies out of our reach. Very thought provoking, Mr. C!

I still feel I’m viewed with pain and regret. I see her in passing and feel the extra efforts to keep distance. We exchange nothing more than Hi, as if Good Morning would be saying too much. I know we’ll get there but not yet at least. I often try not to dwell on things that are out of my control but am unable to do so when it comes to her.
