Kevin

    Kevin was quiet for a long time. "I remember you telling me about that, but I didn't realize the whole story behind it." He sighed. "I know you say I'm your best friend, Beckie, but if that's true, why is there so much about your life that I don't know about? I've never met Jordan, I never knew about Shawn, and I didn't realize there was anything between you and Max until you told me earlier."
    I turned to him, his words causing my heart pain. "Kev, don't think like that. You are my best friend. Why do you think I called you about this?"
    "Then why am I just now getting all the stories?"
    I looked down. "I told you about Jordan before," I answered weakly.
    "But I've never met him. And again, I never knew this Shawn was in love with you or that you slept with him after finding out about Jordan cheating on you."
    "No one knew Shawn was in love with me. Shawn only told me that one time after my mom died. I never told anyone because I didn't want anyone telling me how he's such a nice guy and I should really just give him a chance. I know all that; I just never felt that way about him. Now I'm not so sure I shouldn't just give him a chance," I said miserably. Kevin didn't respond. "I'm sorry, Kevin. I don't want you to think I don't care about you. You really are my best friend, and I love you."
    His lips pursed. "What happened next?"
    I closed my eyes. "I had to tell Jordan."
