A moment to look at rhyme

A moment to look at rhyme

A Poem by Kenneth Stephen Goodpaster

I am in love with rhyming
With how it is so beguiling
And I find it sickening
The attitudes surfacing.

Poetry is to be embraced
Not modified and disgraced
Because you write with haste
It seems like such a waste

A moment is all it takes
To give writing a fun shape
Or to give it a sad take
Try giving your pen brakes

Though it seems like a ramble
It takes not long to unscramble
To reread a same bit of shamble
About a depressing life battle

The absolute uniformity
To refuse the conformity
Is a true poetic irony
And is almost a hypocrisy.

Though words can be an outlet
Just listen to my input
Think about more for a bit
Try to see all there is in it

You can be sad and regressive
You can be happy and obsessive
My mind is not so reclusive
As I am a manic-depressive

So I know and understand
So let your talent take stand
Don't think about a world that can't
And think about a you that can.

Just from time to time
Think up a witty rhyme
It may not be "sublime"
But it might just make you think harder
