ARAPAHO TIME

ARAPAHO TIME

A Poem by jeannemarie coulter
"

time passes

"
wild grasses singing
soft warm breezes
accompanying dragonflies
dancing on ruffled water surface
as shadows lengthen
for laughing busy arapaho women
grinding multicolored indian corn
in ancient stone bowls
with granite pestles
while  fry bread sizzles
in pronghorn fat
as
buffalo bulls bellow
at the rising moon...
it is summer
in the arapaho way
of telling time

yes i love this - indian and aboriginal cultures have always fascinated me - they being so in tune with the land, with the universe and all - you have painted a lovely snippet here of just a touch of life live by another - thanks chick XX

I enjoyed the poem. I'm half Ojibwa. I tell people the time by the sun. They look amazed. Simple logic. 12 noon. Above you. I like the use of the Arapaho and the use of nature. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
