LONELINESS

LONELINESS

A Poem by jeannemarie coulter

LONELINESS

solid distilled LONELINESS,
shadows of night,
prodding us with frozen fingers
driving us out...

into the streets,
into the bars,
into cafes,

where the cacophony of sound
creates the illusion

of community...
of grouping...
of sharing...

which shatters
in the face of...

I

in the face of...

AM

in the face of...

ALONE.

Looks like a tear the format of your writing. Very sad and being alone is so difficult to bear. Finely done here this piece.

This is a fave from you. I like the minimalistic style that plays into the theme of loneliness. Surrounding one's self with people always seems like a good idea, until you do it and find it only highlights how alone you can really be,, even with friends.

So many times in my own life I have ventured out into the chaos of nightlife to rid my loneliness of its home, only to realize that most of what's out there is shallow, superficial and vacant. Loneliness can only be alleviated by genuine friendship, genuine camaraderie with those who you know or at least trust. This piece has captured the yawning chasm that loneliness embodies, very nicely done. take care...dan

Many among us have felt alone in a crowd...our communities sometimes feel completed disjointed and disconnected...but you say it in such wonderfully developed images and form that the loneliness rises and sits heavily within the chest, chilling the reader at the touch of those cold, prodding fingers...beautifully-written, Jeannemarie...

Just because there are crowds of people at your elbow, does not mean that you are not still completely alone. All you are is closer to a lot of body odor. I liked your write!
