A Quiet PlaceA Poem by Joshua McNayI needed to find a place to clear my head.I want to tell you a story about my quiet place, A place I go to escape the race. I found after I went to therapy, To try and suss out what is wrong with me. I was told to find a place where I can be alone, A safe place with no internet and no phone. A place for focused reflection, To look inward to find some connection. As to why I am the way I am, why I do what I do, To be brutally honest with myself, is the only way
through. I found a spot I thought would work for me, A park near my home, seemed like the place for me. The grass was so green and smelled, I swear like spring, It was so serene, all you could hear was the wind and
birds sing. I wandered around trying to find my spot, my quiet place, There it was like a beacon right in front of my face. A tall maple tree with the most beautiful leaves golden
in color, A small bench sat at the base, no need to search for
another. I cleared off the fallen leaves, and I took a seat, Immediately I felt calm, I was surprised, all this from
taking a seat? I can’t explain why, but I knew, I found a comfortable
space, I found what I was after, my quiet place. I go to my quiet place now and then, when I need some
perspective, I am so at ease there; I am far more internally reflective. Answers to questions that constantly plagued me, Were all of a sudden crystal clear to me. There was something special about this bench and tree, Hard to believe, inanimate objects, were a saving grace
to me. I yearned for something to fall on, like others have
faith, Something to hold to when I feel like I was going to
break. To me it was my quiet place, my bench and my tree, When I sit there and gaze out far, I can finally see. The space I searched for to ease my mind, Was actually easy to find. I am thankful for being shown the way, The way I feel no I don’t think will go away. I have this place to be calm and relax, My quiet place, is helping me fix what I lack. I can’t express truly what I feel in this space, I will say I am grateful I found my quiet place. © 2015 Joshua McNayAuthor's Note
