Prison Of Gone

Prison Of Gone

A Poem by Riley Bray
"

She lied.

"
Caught in damaged ropes she is trapped,
Restricted, and held back.
Icy waters are festering,
Beginning at her ankles but ascending.
Her eyes are glassed over, unfocused and unknowing,
Because inside her impaired mind, she is imprisoned.

Drowning in twisted thoughts she is cradled,
Kissed and caressed.
People thrive around her,
Cold and oblivious.
Her mouth is blue, cottony and careless,
Because inside her battered heart, she is breaking.

Descending in rusted chains she is bound,
Tortured and tied.
Screams fall from her joints,
Aching and painful.
Her ears are ringing, dying and dormant,
Because inside her fractured will, she is shaking.

Corpse found later,
Sprawled out in gritty sand,
And engraved in her pale flesh,
Blood clotting the words just so was her last message,
"I said it didn't break me."

Wow. That's wow. Um that ending was powerful. And so true. Often we walk around appearing and acting stronger than we really are. This was just wow. Nicely done.

Thanks Jeremia, that's really sweet of you.
Whether you portray the consequences of persistence or the blatant lines of a depressive, I cannot tell; however it IS enticing nonetheless. The last stanza gave me chills, for I know the drowning feeling personally. well done.
