Redeemer

Redeemer

A Poem by Riley Bray
"

No matter the outcome, I will always refuse to let you go.

"
Leave me your drunken swagger.
Leave me your twisted anger.
Leave me your vile hatred.
Leave me your mindless strain.
Give me your broken moments.
Give me your unsatisfied heart.
Give me your shattered pieces.
Give me your scattered mess.
Let me be your beacon,
So that I may burn all that led you astray,
And return you to goodness.
Let me be your crutch,
So that I may carry your pain,
And return you to happiness.
Let me be your soldier,
So that I may fight your war with you,
And return you to simpler times.
As I do this though,
You may watch me fall,
And I may take your place,
But let it be known,
I was your saving grace,
And ultimately your final redeemer.

'Twas intriguing because I've always been under the thought that we are our own savior; eventually, all will leave to save themselves. Never comes a moment I don't ponder why affection pushes the borders of the need to save oneself. Well done.

A respectable quality, for sure...and one that I believe we share.
