A Poem by jenniewren (J.W. Bouwman)

i held you in my fist
eyes slanted fiercely
as i watched
intent in case you should flutter free
i knew better than to trust you again

each of your pleading pulses
gave a corresponding surge through my veins..
were you not still a part of me,
no matter how your machinations
had been my undoing
on countless past occasions?

perhaps my words would be heeded
this time
because this time i really meant it
this time was past enough
i'd found the hidden morse code
you'd used to telegraph
what our true emotions were
to the one we all knew better than to love

my terms for this detente
are quite simple, really:
stop beating in tune with a pulse
we should no longer hear
and, for god's sake,
listen to me
at least for just this once?

Yikes...this has power. How does something once so beautiful...if it was really beautiful become so out of sync. What was real, then or now...and was I just kidding myself. There are many manufacturers of blinders for horses, and some work better than others, but there is but one manufacturer of blinders for humans, and that is love. Makes me wonder. Nice work.

There is a throbbing yearning throughout this poem which is endearing to me.I like: no matter how your machinations
had been my undoing
on countless past occasions?
I love how your words can get under the skin and give words to muted emotions.

i think i'd drop the last stanza...you've pretty well covered it by there...high humor and wisdom mixed...goes down easy, and with a heart-knowing smile
