Society Killed

Society Killed

A Poem by jessfoundwonder

After I've taken off the gloves and taken the whole world down

I never was on top, it's hard when the devil knows your name, and

I never let what they did leave their bruises in and out of me

I suppose I am strong, but I'm not invincible, clearly

Yesterday is a story that anyone could tell

Different variations of everybody's hell

Mine's been on for miles and days, but it's not weighing on me yet

How can they sleep their nights away without burning their regrets?

Oh oh, five hundred swollen, startled eyes

Pretend you're something terrifying

In the end, you could never critisize your luck

Place all the memories aside, I never thought you would be leaving

Markets close and tea cups crack

You've found new notches carved into the post of your bed

What are these people living for?

I never could describe hate and I never understood the wars

Heads high, march on, we own this city tonight

Teenagers dance, smoking on the bridges

Eyes closed, fists tight

Who could ever know what it means to really live?

Geezus... Your writing style is making me envious.
I think you're really talented and so many of your lines hit me... really hard.
"Oh oh, five hundred swollen, startled eyes
Pretend you're something terrifying" --- I like this because I feel like there is a sarcastic tone to it.

"Heads high, march on, we own this city tonight
Teenagers dance, smoking on the bridges
Eyes closed, fists tight
Who could ever know what it means to really live?"
*That line took my breath away. It reminds me of how I used to be.
Amazing write.
Keep up the good work.
