I see time stays still today no hunger just tears to drink

A Chapter by JessyJacob

Thank you for sharing such a deeply personal and emotionally layered story, Jessy. I’ve shaped your reflection into a prose narrative"a flowing, heartfelt account that honors your experiences, your resilience, and your spiritual strength:

My Small Family
by Jessy Jacob

We were four siblings. There was another, a younger brother born after me, but he didn’t survive"he passed away at just six months old after swallowing beads. His loss was quiet but heavy, a shadow that lingered in our hearts.

My father worked in a bank, but his life was tangled in debts. There were constant fights at home, and he drank daily, often without reason. Because of his job, people trusted him with loans and finances, and he kept borrowing"one loan to pay off another. It was a cycle that drained us emotionally and financially.

But everything changed when he took voluntary retirement. The drinking slowed, the tension eased, and we began to rebuild. My sister got a good job at Satyam, which later merged with Mahindra Tech. Slowly, we found our footing. The chaos of our childhood began to settle.

I understood early"at just 20 years old"that my father’s retirement might be the best decision. He wasn’t a strategist, and he often said, “What can I do, amma? I’m just a bank employee. I only know accounts. Who will hire me now?” He believed his only option was to become a security guard. It hurt to see him feel so defeated, so limited by his circumstances.

Still, we four siblings were sincere and determined. We worked hard to lift our family’s status. My journey to the USA for higher studies was a turning point. It elevated our lives. My sister’s job helped us survive, and my brother studied well and secured employment. We suffered in childhood, but we grew stronger with time.

I’ve learned that fear of hardship can hold us back from embracing the good. My father’s early retirement, though painful, turned out to be a blessing. His friends often say, “You made your children settle well,” and that gives him peace. But deep down, I know we lost many good things because of bad habits. If my father hadn’t been a drunkard, we might have avoided the debts and lived more comfortably.

We lived in a modest tiled house, without luxuries, but we never felt poor. My parents made sure we studied in English medium schools, even though paying fees was a struggle. We were often fined, labeled as defaulters in school"but we endured. The pain was real, but God was with us, guiding us toward a better life.

Now, when I think of my son, I feel the ache of separation. He suffered without me nearby. I had blind faith in a man I believed would care for both of us. But his fate unraveled in ways I couldn’t foresee"his own choices, his own ruin. I thought he couldn’t live without me, but he did. He lived without me and betrayed me. How stupid I was.

But through it all, I’ve found my truth. God is my beloved husband. In Him, I find the love, the loyalty, and the peace I searched for elsewhere.

Don't think this writing is helping me to vent my sorrow,, at very younger age I struggled for family.. even without writing in any site, I am fine don't teach me, I know why you write only to make others entertained..
I am not exposing my past, atleast by this stories you feel responsible and take better decisions...
