The Heart of Family
by Jessy Jacob

My brother’s family is truly beautiful. With his loving parents and adoring sister, my sister-in-law is fortunate to be part of such a warm and caring home. No matter how old we grow, parents still see their children as little ones. I see this not only in his family but in mine, and even among our cousins. Fathers, even with grey hair and grandchildren, still hold on to the belief that their sons are small boys needing guidance and affection. It’s a kind of love that never fades.

I’ll never forget the moment when my borther's parents stood beside my brother and sister-in-law, making sure they were okay as we said our final goodbye to my father-in-law. That scene is etched in my heart. My own father still sees me as an 18-year-old college girl, even though I’m more than twice that age now. He tries to get everything for me, as if I’m still his little daughter. It’s touching, and sometimes overwhelming.

In the USA, I’ve noticed that this kind of caring nature exists, but it’s slowly fading. Relationships are changing"children seek privacy, independence, and often distance themselves from their parents. But in India, parents continue to feel deeply responsible for their children, even after they’re married. My father still treats my brother like a child, unaware of how differently people behave and respond to us now.

My father-in-law was a bit different. He believed his children should grow up and think maturely, especially in relation to the venture he started when they were young. He wanted them to be independent and responsible so he could finally rest. And my mother-in-law"she wasn’t just a simple woman. She was a fully blossomed flower in the garden of her home, nurturing her son and daughter with wisdom, strength, and love.
