The Test of Love

If people love, must they ask why
God tests hearts beneath the sky?
When all seems fair, yet pain remains,
We cross deep waters, bound in chains.

We swim though we were never taught,
No shore in sight, yet still we fought.
Perhaps God sees the simple way,
While tangled paths take time to lay.

Do we give up what we once dreamed,
When God asks, “Is he what you need?”
Why take shortcuts in life so brief,
When truth runs deeper than our grief?

We fall in pits that others dig,
And cry, “I’ve been deceived!”�"so big.
Yet much unfolds beyond our view,
And leaves us lost in what is true.

Didn’t I know what I should be?
What I should want, or what to see?
Now I sit, his gaze in mine,
And wonder�"has come our time?

Are we near the destined place,
Where love no longer hides its face?
I ask not answers, just to know�"
If we are ready now… to go.
