damn, this is like two poems in one...the perils of city life paralleled with the downfalls in life, and how danger and downfalls seem to lurk in the shadows waiting to pounce and rob of our sanity...
and with either...we pray to escape this jam, promising to be a much better person...
but those shadows are hard to elude.
really deep piece, love the Hannibal Lector reference...

Indeed thought provoking and full of creative phraseology. I got the impression of a soldier in the field of battle in Sarajevo perhaps or Homs knowing the enemy are there and may well have snipers as he follows orders and moves to a new position.

Wow, and I don't say that often. I love this piece. The language, tone and pace of it seem to float and merge into one as you go from line to line. I see this as a two sides of the same coin kinda deal, where in the beginning, the sweet darkness of peril suggests heightened emotion from the danger, whereas the dangerous excitement is replaced by the reality of the predicament and a plea to make it through this, a position we have all been in. The saying that there are no atheists in a fox-hole comes to mind.
I love the imagery your words conveyed in this, very grainy black and white silent movie, with your words the thoughts of the viewer.
Superb.
