I Wrote You

I Wrote You

A Poem by non~sequitur
"

This is a poem for a boy. It doesn't matter which one.

"

I wrote you

countless

love letters.

I wrote you

grocery lists

on the back

of old shopping receipts.

I wrote you

towers of emails,

turrets of texts,

and facebook messages

in Helvetica and Pluto Sans.

I wrote you

secrets etched in

maple bark

with the sharp tip

of a pocket knife.

I wrote you

smiles and handprints

like breathless fingerpaint

in the ephemeral morning

condensation of my windowpane.

I wrote to

stay sane.

I wrote haiku

and rondeau

and the dirtiest little limerick you’d ever heard.

I wrote you

sonnets, honestly.

I got caught up in ohs

the yeses and nos and

prose failed

so I transposed

volumes of poetry.

I wrote

You.

I wrote

Y.O.U.

But I couldn’t unpuzzle why

I owed you anything.

Until

I wrote you

and let you

right me.
