Chapter 5 - Realization

This is the fifth chapter of the book

Kenan and Elysia safely made it over to the old apartment complex on East Cottage Street in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Kenan felt disgusted at the sight of the building. It was condemned and abandoned. All the windows were shattered, and all the doors were unable to be locked. “Kenan are you sure that Caesar is here?” said Elysia. “Yes, I am one hundred percent sure of it.” said Kenan as he opened the front door. As the couple entered the condemned building, they heard talking coming from the upper floors. “Shh!! We should go upstairs quietly.” said Elysia in a whisper. “Right.” said Kenan as he led Elysia up the stairs. The sound of Psyche and Ember’s voices grew louder as the couple reached the door. “Tell us what we want to hear.” said Psyche. “I said it before. I didn’t do anything!!” said Caesar. “I said tell us!!” said Psyche. “Okay!! Okay!! I’ll tell you. Someone died because of me. I killed Victoria Blackburn. It was me!!” said Caesar. Kenan whispered to Elysia and said, “I knew it. He is here.” The moment Kenan reached the door to the unit where Psyche, Ember, and Caesar were he held onto Elysia’s hand and stopped the flow of time in the entire building. The couple used that as an opportunity to enter the apartment without the assailants knowing. Caesar was found with his hands tied into a chair in the kitchen being beaten by Psyche and Ember. Kenan gasped as he recognized that the glass cabinet was the same one from the video. The time mage then grabbed both Psyche and Ember’s fists and reverted his magic. “What the hell?” said both Psyche and Ember as they broke free from Kenan’s grip and pushed him back. “Look, I know why you want to do this. I am not here to fight you.” said Kenan. “So, you finally have realized why we must do this?” said Psyche. “Yes, I do but I want you to see that you can get justice another way Patricia.” said Kenan. “So, you connected everything together. I am seriously impressed.” said Patricia as she removed her mask and hood and showed her face. Adult Patricia Blackburn’s hair was still tied in a ponytail. There were old scars on her cheeks and some of her teeth were missing. Caesar gasped at the mention of his daughter’s name. “I can’t believe this. The one who killed all my boys was my own daughter.” said Caesar. Patricia grabbed Caesar’s mouth, clenched it shut and said, “Don’t you ever call me your daughter again!!! You’re really going to call the girl you raped, beaten, and left at a group home when you we’re done with like a garbage can.” “Patricia, please chill. That man caused you so much pain and you didn’t deserve any of it. I understand that. Break the cycle of violence by seeking justice without it.” said Kenan. Patricia released Caesar, looked at Kenan and said, “How am I going to get that?” “With this.” said Kenan as he showed Patricia Elysia’s phone with all the pictures of the evidence showing Caesar’s involvement with human trafficking. “Oh my God.” said Patricia as she began to cry. “I think you see it now. We got all the proof. We can get him locked away for life. He will never be able to hurt anyone ever again.” said Kenan. Patricia sniffled, wiped her tears and said, “You’re right. Let’s do it. Let’s turn him in.” “Right.” said Ember as she took off her mask and tossed it. Ember’s skin was white, and her hair was also black like Patricia’s. Kenan looked at Ember and said, “Say, who are you really?” “This is Etsilla. I don’t know if you will believe me. She is an alien.” said Patricia. “An alien?” said Kenan. “I am from the planet Nartakatur. My clan and I came to Earth for a safe place to live. I only joined Patricia because she is my friend and I love her to death.” said Etsilla. “I see.” said Kenan as he grabbed the constricted Caesar. “Where are you taking me?” said Caesar. “Where do you think?” said Kenan as he punched Caesar in the chest and forced him to stand up. As Kenan and the others headed for the door to leave, Bradley appeared in the entryway. “You. I thought we killed you.” said Patricia. “Did you really think a mortal weapon like a knife could kill me?” said Bradley as the wound on his neck has completely healed. “You’re a demon.” said Kenan as he stepped back. “You catch on quick Time Guardian.” said Bradley as his body changed. Kenan and the others have gasped as Bradley morphed into a Caucasian woman with long brown hair and brown eyes. “Who are you really?” said Caesar. “My name is Alfasad. I am the demon of desperation. I don’t mind telling you who I am since you are all going to die.” said Alfasad as her eyes glowed and her body began to change. “Everyone to the roof now!!!” said Kenan as he led the others upstairs to the roof of the building. “So now what Kenan?” said Etsilla. “We have to combine our powers to take that thing down.” said Kenan as Alfasad burst through the roof in the form of a rabid dog the size of a couch. As Patricia stared at the creature, she had a terrifying realization. Her dreadful father Caesar was nothing but a puppet all along.
