Chapter 2 - The Test

This is the second chapter of the book.

The Cassius brought Michael to his destination across time. He appeared at the public yard on American Legion Highway while it was a bright sunny day. With it being too hot Michael took off his jacket and hung it on the branch of a nearby tree. He then followed the smell of barbequing from a grill and the laughter from children. Michael quietly gasped as he seen the child versions of Shawna and himself. He made sure to watch them from behind a tree at a far distance. They were eating burgers and drinking juice on one of the benches. Michael then smiled and said, “It worked. The watch worked. Shawna, I will catch the killer and arrest them.” And with that, Michael ran back to that tree where his jacket was and used the Cassius to return to the present. Kenan was sitting down waiting for Michael to return. He noticed the tears that had rolled down his eyes. “Hey welcome back. How did it go?” said Kenan. “That experience was great. I’m glad that this watch works.” said Michael. “That’s great to hear. That watch never fails to amaze its user.” said Kenan. “With that I can use this to find the killer. I want to make that person regret taking my love from me. I want to ask them why they do it.” said Michael. “Right. For now, you can keep the watch. I ask that you make sure not to lose it. Guard it with your life.” said Kenan. “I will. I promise. I think it’s best I do the time jumps here. I hope it’s okay with you and Elysia.” said Michael. “No problem. It’s totally fine to do that here.” said Kenan. “Great. Thanks. I’m going to go home. I’ll see you next time.” said Michael as he left Kenan’s house and took a rideshare back home. Despite being in an empty house, Michael went to bed with a smile knowing that the test was successful.
