i agree that the simplicity is warranted in this piece.
I would even argue that it doesn't need to be a haiku.

you could take that out and it would still be a great poem, only not a haiku poem!!!

Do you know what I love about haiku's? It is to the point, no fluff. Which is what I enjoyed about yours.
You paint the visuals without trying...
