To The Water

To The Water

A Poem by JR

The other day out on the lake a
vulture swooped out over us his
wings spread wide like a crucifix
etched over the sun and I thought
Jesus what would it be like
to be one with the air, held
almost motionless by the fist
of the thermal
a crucifix etched
over the sun
so easy to live a life in the wind, with
a twitch of muscle, he was gone,
winging silent west
and how I wish I could live my life
like that, easy existence of air
no worries, no wine,
spread my arms so wide
and expose my heart
to the water.
