Pecking order

Pecking order

A Poem by Jon Roggie

I enjoy watching birds.

Spend some time,
  watch how they get along.

Drop a few crumbs,
  little ones come forward.

Draws the attention of others.

Soon, the pigeons move in,
  chasing off the sparrows.
Gobbling down the food til they are unable to fly.

Others sneak in and steal the food,
while the bully tries to rule the roost.

Always,
  the others are watching.

Nature seems to mirror life.

Even us poor humans have our pecking order.

:: sheer profundity... brilliantly observed and brilliantly narrated... indeed, we have "our pecking order"...
