I don't get what its about. who is he talking to? Why is ice cream mentioned?

Sometimes people will stick with the same thing, and never try anything new. It can be in how they live, or in day to day routines. The ice cream was inspired by a phrase in DC Comics "Identity Crisis". Runs along the line of "For some it is always vanilla or chocolate. For her it was butter pecan." Sometimes take the less obvious choice, and enjoy the experience.
