I am a mutt

I am a mutt

A Poem by Jon Roggie

I am not a pure breed.
I do not come from a certain race.
My family has not always been part of certain religious creed.
I am a mutt.
Now,
 because of this simple distinction,
I realize I am able to draw from an endless well of culture.
I am able to learn,
and grow from all of those who have went before.
Some might try to deny their heritage,
  but why?
It all made you.
So before you check my pedigree,
 realize.
I am a mutt.

I love this & it applies to me, as well. I've always preferred mutts, having volunteered at animal shelters for years! *smile* Here's the thing that cracks me up. There are TV commercials about how we should get people a DNA kit, so we can know our ancestors. Is it just me, or is this a rather elitist concern? I love all my various ancestors, but I don't really feel any connection to them at all! I get the most, as your poem says, thru the natural diversity of life! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
