Totems

Totems

A Poem by Jon Roggie

Some cultures have moved pass the idea.
  I have not.
It makes for an easy description.

I used to be the Coyote.
 I was the Trickster.
Teach by slight of hand.

Simple misdirection used to keep emotions in check.

Slowly changing,
 I had no choice.
I am now the turtle.
  Personally,
    I prefer tortoise.

Moving slowly,
I carry the world on my back.

Supposedly wise,
I can't help but glance from side to side.

I may be a tortoise,
but the coyote is still inside,
   waiting to play.

Being true to yourself and spirit is wisdom but we need to be connected to time and place- totems are powerful spiritual and connected- I travelled to Alaska - powerful place and mystical will return before my end- carrying world on your back can be wisdom accumulated but as soon as it becomes a bondage- set it free- wonderful poem- special and deep🌹
