Kisses are for Fishes

Kisses are for Fishes

A Poem by Julia Ledo

Remember making kissy faces at a fish tank?
Fingers smudging the glass
Everytime I kiss you I think of those stupid little fish
And smudgy fingerprints
And how it feels like I'm going under
The first time your lips pressed to mine
Our eyes were open wide
Like a staring contest with a glass wall between kissy faces
And your fingers smudge my skin in purples and yellows
And my body's made of glass
But yeah, kisses are for fishes

I once watched my friend who was high on magic mushrooms, try to kiss the fish that sucks the glass - through the glass of a home aquarium.
I think I may have wee'd a little - it was hilarious.
This is wonderfully endearing Julia.

Is this intended to be about domestic violence? Because that is how I read it.

Fingers making bruises, eyes wide open in fear... the childhood innocence of kissing fishes lost?

More of a less than fondly remembered relationship rather than domestic violence. With a body made o.. read more
i had those gourami's the kissing ones...and yes, sometimes our first kisses are like that....

we open our eyes and the other is staring at us...and the glass gets smudged and fogged up...like the car windows..
and others are on lovers' lane looking at us like we are in a fish tank..

and then there are those plocosamus catfish with the big suction lips...some kisses are like that...too.

a really fun poem full of nostalgia...
