Rock fish manA Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)Dedicated to my late father xx
Up at four
I hear him go quietly and quick Out the holiday flat door he goes He rushes down to see his mate And light up one more before the dawn In distant moonlight I see his Old worn navy face And dream of him As in child's sleep I go I wonder where my father goes So early when all kids asleep he knows He goes out to fish and catch Those fish so deep And sometimes on a rock he stands And feels the surf at his tight Gripped feet He'll pull his line in and talk to mate And wonder if they'll be home Soon to cook the fish On the old iron rusty grate Oh scrumptious fish so fresh so bare I love you best with butter there That my father caught today On wild surf rocks And in dreams of him I awake to see My mother hugging him As he brings his mornings Catches in © 2017 Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere) |
