Brick and mortarA Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)Written as I go review good or bad most welcome
Brick and mortar
Air and water Lamb pig fowl cow All Went to the slaughter Sun and moon Stars and planets Low and high tide Wind and rain Lightning and thunder Wishing well drops Coin Saucepan and lid Mortar and pestle Knife and fork Spoon and bowl Artist and easel Pen and writer Dice it rolls on board Heart and soul Farmer and plough Fields and frost Dust and road Speed And cars Money and greed Lies and honesty Droughts and floods Boat and life jacket Pilot and plane Boat and sailor Car and driver Guns and war Book and reader Park and trees Birds and nest Fish and water Beauty and health Health with longevity Movie and popcorn Fridge and food Money and sustain Job and exhausted Skills and work Lazy and idle Man and dog Friends and company Lovers and love Man and woman Plants and water Life and death Dying after living Born without asking Man and God Linked forever The mystery of pairs The mystery thereof The wonder of this life So beautiful paired So wonderfully staged The icing is set The cake is now made The seats in the opera Now filled to the stage The mystery of life Lies unknown till death Till all the pawns In life's chess set do rest and the actors on Gods mighty Stage Do die Till life and till death Pair up So beautifully best So till that time Has come For that chess s board Or game of life That we so dutifully play Is put to rest We must toil with our Bricks and our mortar Like pigs to the slaughter This game we. Call life Such a dutiful test My chess piece is worn all ivory And scratched My time is not up Let's play checkmate One more time here The queen has her pawn With the sound of that slaughter The game this life This beautiful test With unsavoury zest © 2017 Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere) |
