A Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)
"

just imagine

"
just imagine
all of us
poets writers
in a ballroom
sitting there in our stiff
and sunday best
too shy to come and talk
or ask to dance
pens and paper left at home
dreaming of our pencils and ink
no computers tablets nor
phones to write or speak on
no books to read
out of our depth
in
our sunday best
or Saturday at a country dance
in our jeans and suede shoes
girls in little flouncy skirts and cowboy boots
jigging away out of time
I would be sitting in corner with a wine
beating all the tunes in time
with clenched fingers right behind my back
wanting to go home and just hit the sack
am I so anti social that I cant
be in such a usual haystack
of people crowds and noises unaware
all us writers like our space
we sit and write and while away our hours
this is our given choice to make
