irisA Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)You are the iris of my eye the apple may have gone the pears and strawberries and chocolate and swansongs you are the iris of my eye oh beautiful iris I know you are there to see me safe beyond my own closed eyes you are the transparent cornea of my eye all else is wild and blue so true to you you are the translucent cornea of mine eye you are the steadfast keeper the cornea of mine own blue eyes you are the lashes that surround my eyes your long swift lashes that blink out daily sun rays you are the lashes of my eyes so soft and feathery and light you are the sunshades for mine eyes in driving light and dizzy night lights you are the lashes of mine eyes you are the whites in my eyes the pure white with blood veins beyond sometimes clear after a long summers slumber sometimes red after a night of dreadful insomnia you are the whites of mine own eyes I love the best the iris of mine own eyes when your eyes meet mine I see your iris deep and so divine you are the iris of mine own eyes in moods you widen in anger you shrink I can tell who you are when my iris meets thine own iris in your own minds
eye I love the best my iris deep in my eyes I love to see your iris too when thine eyes meet mine where east meets west where south meets north the iris clicks the lashes whish the whites are bright you are the iris of my night You are the pupil of mine own eyes
My pupil deep and black
Your iris will never hold back
My pupil my iris my cornea my white
My lashes gently feather in slumber
All that summer night
