Baby

Baby

A Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)

He slept soundly
Knowing his
Mum was close by

He heard the bombs
Being a baby he knew it
Wasn’t right but didn’t know yet
what those awful loud noises were

He curled up into a ball
Knowing his mum was there
Next to him in her big bed
She would protect him
He knew that feeling
It was nice

He woke up in fright
Being only less than a year old
He now knew fear

Looked over from his cot
Through the slats
His mum
His only sole protector
In this new world that he was in
Was weeping

He felt sad
He didn’t know the word weep or sad yet
He knew the feeling

He just knew seeing his mum
Hearing his mum
Like that In the middle of his night
Made him sad too

He didn’t know he was sad
So he cried too

His mum immediately stopped her sad weeping
Came over
And fed him

If only she knew he wasn’t hungry
He was just crying
As her crying made him sad

He couldn’t drink the milk she gave
And they both settled in
For the night
Again
It was one am and dark

He didn’t know time existed or bombs or crying or danger
But he knew fear and that his mother would protect him with her life

He slept soundly again
With bombs going off
He didn’t know yet the bad loud noises
were bombs

He woke up seeing his mum
Packing big brown bags
All things being thrown in
He wanted to ask her why what’s happening
But he couldn’t
He was less than a year old

He didn’t know the words
But knew the feeling was new
It was frightening
So he cried again
Again his mother
Cuddled and fed him
He drank a bit more
Today his mother was pleased

War is unforgivable
Innocent lives on both sides gone

He didn’t know the word war yet
Or even the meaning of war
But felt fear
At such a young age

A heart rending story but even in metaphor it works for us all. Infants in our own way we don't understand war anymore than the infant we only know that it is scary, horrific, painful and to be feared but not the why and unable to stop it we look for our mother or father in governments, or God.

Thanks for your kind review
I was reading this, for a pick up.
It definitely wasn't.

War, is terrible,
And people will only give it up,
When they give up,
power, and the seeking of it.

When governments give up the love of power and money,
Then it will happen.

In other words, it will not happen..
Not until the World, is a new thing,
Like a person becoming new or born.
Like a baby, itself.
