Smile Coated Shell

A smile, happy and gleaming,

The laughs and jokes,

No problems.

 

Seamless, perfect,

Invulnerable to the world

 

Every day for every one,

A little smile,

A senseless word.

Then the shell breaks,

The mask comes off

And the entire world can see.

 

This is me

Lost and dazed

Propped up with pins,

Repulsed by human touch,

Deeper in

 Now the mask can no longer hold them back

Its pieces trampled by invading minds

Rushing toward the heart…

 

The mask slips on once again,

Blocking back prying eyes,

Hiding soul and heart

The black throbbing mess.

 

A few words and a gentle smile,

Words tossed and played,

Jokes and loud words…
