Omnipresent

Omnipresent

A Poem by Kaela Craven
"

My realization of the media and our culture, and its role in the lives of women.

"

I used to look at her face -
Their painted faces -
And see their overly crass
Over-use of a*s.

Smoking in the darkness -
Their scar fingers.

I see their push-up bras
Holding up more than their breasts.

I used to see their nail polish
And hear their moaning
From the back bedroom
While someone with a penis -
Omnipresent penis -
Turned them over
So he didn't have to see the face
So carefully donned this morning.

I used to see women
But now I see better.
Now I see men behind every woman's eyes.
Men like ghosts
Like shadows.
Haunting her hands when she pulls on her
Victoria Secret.
Men in her vomit,
In her ribcage.
Men by thousands
Behind glowing boxes
And tinny broadcasts.
Airbrushed, unrecycled,
Perfume samples.

Where I used to see women
I hear moaning.
Legs wide, neck arched, blank eyes.

Where I used to see women
Now I see a television screen.
