Old poem I dug out and finished. It’s nice to get away.
Oh it is nice to get away
for part of the day
Riding my bike
I feel such exhilaration
for a taste of the countryside
that would make
my heart feel pride.
The wind on my face
makes me feel so awake
cycling down past the lake
the ducks and swans
it would seem without a care
are swimming happily there.
The bluebells and dandelions
are all speckled with dew
along the windy roads
the swallows and the seagulls
are flying overhead
as I cycle upon the gravel
of the roads less traveled .
Hearing the trees
rustle in the wind
some sheep going baa
some cows going moo
and maybe I’ll
see a pheasant or hen
Or a horse or two.
For a while I can
own this dream
I’m in no rush
as I see a thrush
as I capture this shot
In all this beauty
I’m deep in thought.
Now on my way
up past the old burn
I promise myself
another day soon
I will return.
i think it is quite common that people create spaces of comfortable escape. i think most people idealize beaches this way, for me it is mountains, and for you the countryside. i enjoyed the sensory details. yet even though this is a space, it is also a process of travel, to get to one place in one's mind to another place, hence it being described as a dream and "on my way/past the old burn". it's a process of taking comfort and revisiting one's old wounds. thank you for another inspirational moment :) let's keep going!

Feet going, breeze blowing and an open road through greener than green streaks of narrow roads, they in turn making way through what must be Liberty! Even the slowing down, the halting, the looking, the mind and eyes clear of bricks and mortar equal absolute magic! The heavenly 'all about'
Who needs a bell or even brakes at time.. free wheeling makes life quicker and better than walking crowded pavements, sullied by feet and sound and too much of everything. Life can escape into what be normality with bike and time, land and kind weather. Your poem is a gift for which I thank you very, very much. Smiling, imagining.. for the remainder of the day. Tomorrow, weather permitting will check the tyres and... go for it! Ding a ling!
Well done Katrina. I can identify completely with your bike ride and with all the sounds and sights of the countryside. I'm a cyclist myself and enjoy getting out for a spin.

Your poem with all this intricate and lovely details shows your love for the country side, for the movement towards somethings, for the freedom you feel within, for the self escape even momentarily to rejuvenate and stay in touch with nature. It shows that it does not have to be the big excursions life has to offer...All marvelous...

The psychological and mental advantages of riding a bike regularly are something that really helps maintain cheerfulness in our daily lives. Your poetic descriptive write helps elevate that expression of free spirit and love of nature. Really lovely read my friend! :-)
dearest Katrina... I sense a style of Robert Frost... but really reminds me of the Bicycle Ride in the movie “The Quiet Man” with John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara. You took me to the Countryside. Have a blessed Easter 2020. Prayerfully, Pat
I joined you on your cycle ride and briefly escaped the current nightmare that we find ourselves in. Lovely imagery of the natural environment and living creatures we share our planet with. Thoroughly appreciated and enjoyed Katrina.

how did you know? this is like you had visited an oracle.
Riding a bike in the countryside, alone. The road which now is definitely less traveled.
and the idea of returning....of us being able to return to the life we knew, maybe with much more appreciation.
