Turn Styles

Turn Styles

A Poem by Kathy Van Kurin
"

People that come, that go.

"

Turn styles

Clicks of time turning, people come and go

Face to face, soul to soul, temporary.

But oh, please sit with me for awhile

May I bask in the words of your story!

Let motivated winds swirl troubles away

I hope your answers will come.

Let remembrance stability hold your hand

I witness you not giving up.

Kindness shown midst honest work

In every season are found strong lessons.

This life this time, on and on

I will let you go when you leave.

Thank you for each experience

within hard pressed moment.

As are grapes crushed to become wine

Classes of life, lessons the diploma.

Let me be of use when the broken

 come through my door.

Wisdom listens its ways are patient.

Love flows freely love gives

Let this conduit flow both ways.

This one wants what you bring to the table

Again and again and again.

Your fragile brokenness won’t scare me away.

For I am human too.

The speaker here seems to be a therapist of sorts, one eager to help those dealing with the traumas of life. It is as though this person gets as much out of providing help as those receiving it do. I would not be surprised to learn these sessions are provided free of charge.

Kathy, from the beginning you've given your poem such a cleverly compassionate title. People come and go in one's life, each with meaning but, perhaps not always kindness. But one has to try and cope with it (life), however its wretched oblivion cloaks it. People have their hopes dashed and terrestrial prayers seemingly overlooked, but - to have a friend somewhere who swims or flies ready to be found is heaven-sent for those in need. Many don't believe and meander through life as if cynically deaf and blind. Your words offer far, far more than the average person gives in this frantic modern global society. Too many give judgements without caring about the vast global mix and match

Kathy, many, many thanks for caring

You sort of sound like a hostage negotiator at times.

But I love the overall gist of it.

Ironically a friend of mine just read The Grapes of Wrath for the first time a few months ago. It did not improve their state of mood.

Being someone others can turn to in need...rare these days since so many are simply out of themselves or just too busy to give time to those who need it.
Or are we just afraid to feel compassion...a cold world, we need more like the speaker of this poem.

This is a compassionate write Kathy..:)

It reads like a letter to a good friend, encouraging and kind.
Someone accepting that people come and go in our lives, and that's for a reason....so let's encourage each other on this journey we call life......for however long we're together...

Thanks for sharing this upbeat and wise poem...
