One More Gift

One More Gift

A Poem by Kathy Van Kurin
"

What is our life?

"

One more gift

Alone by the pond with my thoughts in this blessed solitary place

Above lacy clouds hold their position Breezes embrace my skin.

Is this escape?

Leaf shadows dance framed in sunlight I look and wait for answers

Expansive the sky above in this solitude this terrain so very cherished.

Is this adventure?

Air swirls my hair and lifts through above cottonwood canopy

Wishes surround like butterflies yet to materialize I feel their presence.

Is this peace?

Sometimes life breathes questions hovering just under soul’s surface.

These coalesce of emotions pulled from below this soul’s inner sanctum.

Is this seeking?

May I search within breeze whispers, bird tremolos, rain dappled aire.

May I seek hope these feet seeking good, seeking joy wherever, however.

Is this ok?

Not in the glitz, nor down the road of expansive culture burdensome.

I am walking forward a simple existence, one of cherished gems given.

Is this sharing?

Minutes arrayed, smiles shared, embraces given, tears shed.

Yes this is life.

I so enjoyed the imagery in this one. Alliteration in phrases like "Cottonwood Canopy" is super. The font is a bit difficult to read, but I copied and pasted it and changed it so these old eyes could read it! Kathy, your love of nature shines in this write. Lydi***

God is good all the time. Life is a series of highs and lows; struggles and victories and losses. But life is good all the time too. I think it's the hardest thing in the world to feel sorry for yourself while you are counting your blessings. For that reason I like to start every day with an attitude of gratitude toward my Creator and the day ahead. It was great to read your words. I enjoyed. F.

Interesting how the poem is punctuated by various questions. They seem different on the surface, but all of them ask the reader's opinion. Different people may have different answers, but that's OK. Really, that's life.

Feels like a quiet conversation with the self—gentle, questioning, and grounded in the stillness of being alive.
There’s a calm clarity in it, like someone learning that peace doesn’t arrive with answers, but with the willingness to keep asking.

I got as far as “cottonwood canopy” then I completely lost my focus while adrift in memories of cotton raining from the trees, an aerial avalanche, an invasion. So I started over. I quite like the poem. I think your framing the work around the list of questions is very effective. Yes! It is sharing. And yes this is life. You have very creatively illuminated these almost universal questions about being human.

I rested here, took a deep breath and enjoyed the beautiful description of the natural environment. All those gifts and yet some are blind to it. Your poetic expression is ace Kathy and the imagery joyful and peaceful. Wonderful poetry. Have a lovely Monday.
