Beginning a New Tomorrow

Beginning a New Tomorrow

A Poem by Nicole
"

About a mother who has to start all over again because of the Dust Bowl.

"

My babay cries as I set her on her only blanket,

It's dry and old and covered with dirt from our last dust storm,

I feel saddness,

Only saddness,

When my baby cries,

I know I cannot afford her needs,

A car passes by,

and I smell the gasoline and exaust,

hear the engine roar like lions ready for a fight,

My car looks like a junkyard,

with the only things I have left,

Everything I will use to start a new life,

Heat of the sun warms my skin,

and it makes me feel weary,

For a moment I feel air,

only fresh air,

and it brings me hope of a new tomorrow,

Where I can leave everything behind,

All my worries,

and all my pain,

Then I remember,

I am an ant in a giant world where I have no control.

The entire time of dust bowl is depressing and sorrowful but they would have never gotten through it with out hope and wishings for their children to have better lives. I like this poem a lot and the last line is I think how so many people feel in this giant abysmal world around us, but having hope brings us to each new day.

So true. Very few have control over anything. Perhaps it's defying the world and trying regardless that transforms that ant into something larger.

the last line of this poem leaves a very powerful sentiment with the reader. it's like imminent sense confusion and fear is left because it's how everyone will feel at some point.

nice job. :]
