Ballooning

Ballooning

A Poem by Kieran James McGovern

Ballooning

Right now I’m floating over

The city’s pretty lights

Won’t go dead, the flame from my head keeps it

Burning through the night

Been wearing this skin for a couple years and

I brought no spare clothes, no way to change

Drifting farther over seas of darkness

The world is way out of range

Lift off was quite a let down

Light enough to fly

I’m sorry if my farewell party left a

Permanent black-eye

If I could’ve seen through the smoke then I would’ve told ya

The living room had caught fire

And with the final spin of vinyl

Another spark in the night to admire
