Dear Prudence

Dear Prudence

A Poem by Kieran James McGovern

Dear Prudence

Quiet again, try and pretend

You’re not alone

Nothing to lose

So much to prove

So speak tacitly

Through charades, smiles feigned

That nobody sees

Your roofless temple of aloofness

Is hard to live within

But you can’t live without

Destination

I share that same kind of pride

It takes to hide

Salvage yourself

All doors are locked

And off-limits to all else

We could meet one day

Regardless of how far away we are

Compromise our defense

But the clouds have now swallowed the stars…
