The Purple lilac petals swoon amongst the breeze,
If only time could stop, if simply it could freeze,
Preserve the sweetness in the air; let it linger in the sky,
For I see those petals go, and I’m not ready to say good Bye.
Yet the petals drop, land upon a lake, and slowly start to sink,
As I watch I ponder and slowly start to think.
I bend over and cup the petals, wet and withered, to save them from dying,
Until I realize that it’s too late, it was silly for even trying.
For they have long been gone, I simply did not know
I thought as I watched some petals fly , only this time let them go.
I saw the purple petals place upon a lake, it was then that I found;
It’s easier to preserve their beauty by merely allowing them to drown.
