Cancerous Heart

Cancerous Heart

A Poem by Kerri Maniscalco

My heart has been rendered black,

From all the cancerous words

You can never take back.

You fought so hard for control

Never fully understanding

How your demeaning words had taken their toll

How did we get here?

When did our love fade to black?

When did fear find it’s way to come between us,

So we could never go back?

My heart has been rendered black,

From all the cancerous words

You can never take back.

The scars I’m carrying run deep

Most nights I cry and my heart races

Preventing me from sleep.

My mind dances with memories we once shared

of so many different places we had been

Once upon a time when we both cared.

My heart has been rendered black

From the cancerous words

You can never take back.
