Phases of Life

this is the "traditional" phases of life

The beginning of your life

you're childish and young,

stealing from the cookie jar

and smacking your gum.

You learn to ride a bike

and comb your hair,

you start your future bright

yet still up in the air.

 

Then comes the time in your life

when you have your first kiss

and your so damned nervous

that you nearly miss.

When boys get their first chin hair

and freak the f**k out,

and girls starts to become women

and wonder what love's about.

 

And as you hit your teen years

you feel you need to be free,

you try to rebell against your 'rents

and spead your wings.

You try to "fit in" and be cool,

but still "stand out".

Try booze for the first time

(and when no ones looking, spit it out).

 

 

And when you've made it

through your teen years

and it's time to leave your home,

to have a partner and family

all your own:

I hope you look back and smile,

hope you can laugh and chuckle

at the phases of your life

and not focus on the negative,

the "shoulda/coulda/wouldas",

or strife.

 

 

Author's Note

Obviously not everybodies life was like this. Speaking for myself, mine definately wasn't, but I wanted the poem to be general. Please tell me what you think.

I was wondering why you have left out the elderly state of living, until my eyes scanned the author's note. You put together a life of experiences and anxiousness in few words (or at least considering this is supposed to be one's own life) and simply.
