I saw what he yelled about; someone was holding him by the arms now covering his mouth. He tried to get away but the guy had him tight. I bolted but something tripped me and I was knocked out cold. I woke up to unpleasant throbbing in my head.
“Hello. Anybody there?” I clasped my head. I couldn’t see very well my eyes were covered with something.
“Took you long enough.” I knew it was Rikki I could tell by the way is words sounded arrogant yet caring. I heard scuffling then the blindfold was taken off.
“Where are we? And what the heck happened to my head.” I was yelling, but not aloud enough to get him mad.
“I was hoping you could tell me.” He sat down next to me. I looked around it was just like my fort back home. The walls a smooth frozen brown, mud. The floor though was wooden planks. Something I have never seen in a fort. Unless it was a home.
“Well were defiantly underground. Where? I don’t know but telling from these floors it’s permanent.” Rikki looked around. “So my head?” I clasped my forehead yet again.
“Well these people came into camp held me down pretty tight. The put some string or something in your way and you hit your head. Knocking yourself out. They blindfolded us, I don’t know why you though. You were knocked out pretty bad.”
“How nice.” I put my head back and heard a faint sound. I shot my head up turned around and knocked slightly against the wall. It was hallow or another room was next to it.
“What?” Rikki twisted himself to face the wall to.
“These walls are hallow, or at least this one is. I think there is another room beside this one.” I stood up testing the next three walls.
“Careful.” I didn’t know what he was talking about then I trip over something. Rikki helped me up and saw it was my backpack. I looked through my backpack, nothing was gone even my knife. Obviously they didn’t see me a threat or they didn’t search it. Yet. “What is so important.” He looked at me very confused.
“I want to make sure they didn’t search my backpack. What’s interesting is that they took this with them. I mean why?” I think I was onto something, but I didn’t know what.
“Maybe there nice.” He looked around seeing nothing.
“Then why would we be in the room smarty.” I stood up after I put everything back into my backpack.
            “Good point.” He faced me.
“Know how they got us in here?”
            “Why would I know?”
“You weren’t knocked out you could have used your senses. Don’t tell me you didn’t listen or even remembered what happened.” He smiled a weary smile. “You didn’t did you. That story was fake wasn’t it?” He smiled another smile. Like he was sorry.
“My story was partially true, and I was kind of all tied up.” He thought he had a good excuse. “I couldn’t hear a thing, my mouth was gagged, I was completely boxed up.”
“That means there smart. They knew if they could block your senses you would be helpless, and I was knocked out so they didn’t care about me.”
“Great were dealing with smart asses.” He sat down against a wall. I sat down to feeling hopeless.
            “Their too smart.”
“Think we’ll ever get out?” He looked at me wanting a glimmer of hope.
“I have no idea.” I looked away not wanting to see the disappointment. “So what are the Smoke Houses?”
“It’s a place where you can just get away. Runaways go there, they hide from the foresters. I have been there 2 years now, I bring people in. I thought you were one of them, that’s why I kind of tackled you earlier. Never in my years have I been in a place like this, or even heard of anything like it.” He looked down at the ground I looked at him I think he blamed himself for this.
“It sounds amazing, I would like to go there someday.” I laid my head back against the wall.
“You would like it, and the stuff you brought would be a great help. We don’t have many people that bring stuff like that.” He looked at me kindly. “A knife is going to be awesome, a nice sharp knife.” He looked so happy but then it hit me.
“A knife!” I shot up going to my backpack, I again searched it.
“What?” He was now standing above me.
“The walls, their hallow we can make a hole to get out.” I found the knife and popped it open.
“Okay.” I started to chip a small hole ounce it broke through I made a second.
“Look through one hole, we can see if anybody is on the other side.” We both looked in I couldn’t believe what I saw. There were at least five people sitting around an oval table. Their faces worn and a lighter white then Rikki’s mostly because of being underground. They wore brightly colored shirts, each one woven delicately.
“What have you done?” The person at the end of the table yelled loudly and angrily.
“I do not know, I thought they were a threat. They were rate on top of use for goodness sake!” A person standing up seemed freaked out.
“Well we can’t let them leave now, they could track us.”
“I doubt that, the girl was knocked out cold. Although the guy almost got away, we could barely contain him.”
“Well then what if they report us as kidnapping, because you did kind of steal them.” I doubt that, I didn’t want to get near the police.
“We could always leave, go somewhere else.” I was glad someone else was trying to vote against keeping us captive.
“No way it took us to long to create this in secret. All of our connections know where to drop, if we let this go someone will defiantly take this. NO WAY.” The guy was now turning red. I don’t think we were going to get out.
“Our secrets will be safe. We can still get the money, we can still get the diamonds.” Rate then I knew what this was. A mob. Soon enough they would know who I was. My dad was pretty popular in underground mobs, my family was known.
“Maybe we can strand them, wait till they fall asleep and leave him somewhere in the woods.” I was getting nervous.
“Good idea, we can go off that.” The people started to leave. Except one guy, never good.
“Wait Mark, can I talk to you for a minute.” The person yelling stayed behind, he must be the leader. Again, never good.
            “What?” Mark didn’t seem happy.
“I recognized the girl; I think she might be someone.”
            “Like who?”
“The big mob, umm….Monroe’s kid.” I froze that was my dad. “Yea that’s it.” Mark stood up straight they both left the room quickly. I quickly hid the knife in the secret compartment of my backpack and pulled Rikki down to sit next to me.
“Whatever you do don’t talk.” I whispered into Rikki’s ear. I knew they were coming, or at least coming soon.
“What’s going on, is that guy someone you know…?” He said that really slow, he knew it was my dad. “Your dad?” I slowly shook my head up and down. I was really nervous I could barely keep still. Tears were forming in my eyes. Rikki hugged me trying to calm me. I calmed down and the tears stopped but I was still a little bit shaky. The little light in the room went out completely. I heard footsteps around me, I felt something go around my head I grabbed Rikki’s hand and held onto it tight. I felt someone lift me up and hold my arms behind my back. “You okay?” I heard Rikki say, I guess they were taking him out to.
“Yea.” I was really scared. I stumbled as they pushed me. I felt a push down into a chair.
“That’s defiantly her.” The voice I recognized as Mark’s said then I heard footsteps walking out.
