Priority List

Priority List

A Poem by Courtney

Being stretched on each side it seems.

But my mind always prevails in these bouts;
My head and heart on opposite teams,
but I always follow the same route.

I've been waiting for this all my life,
these opportunities are few.
I won't waste this genetic gift of drive.
This is something I must do.

You think I don't love you enough.
I'll come running back, you say.
I'll miss you and wish I'd never left,
but I don't work that way.

My selfishness you see past,
all my qualities are good to you.
My heart explodes like a shot-gun blast,
...maybe I will miss you.

But my priority list has already been made;
you're my only explanation of what love means,
but I'm sorry to say that love comes in second place;
I won't let you replace my dreams.
